House music is tied to place, in the most literal sense. It's name is taken from the Warehouse, a tiny club that could accommodate 450 ravers during its late 80s heyday. The music of the Warehouse - led by resident DJ Frankie Knuckles - was defined by his reel-to-reel edits disco tracks, looping instrumental breaks and toying with the rhythm while ramping up the bass. His work - the invention of House - heralded a new era of what remixing could do and sound like.

House has since moved to much grander arenas than its humble beginnings on South Jefferson Street, transforming clubbing in the 1980s, before experiencing a renaissance across the 90s and arriving in club epicentres across the globe to take on a multitude of forms and evolutions.

Despite the sheer magnitude that House music has had on global music, the city responsible for the genre had no formal celebration of its legacy. That's why ARC Music Festival was created: to celebrate Chicago’s electronic musical legacy as the birthplace of House.

Since its inception in 2021, ARC has taken over Union Park during Labor Day Weekend, growing into the city’s flagship techno and house event uniting over 20,000 music lovers. Its four stages—The Grid, elrow, Expansions, and Area 909—showcase established legends alongside emerging acts, with groundbreaking b2bs and once-in-a-lifetime performances.

Beyond Union Park, ARC has spread through the city, making its presence felt far beyond the festival grounds. Afterparty series ARC After Dark takes place over four nights across iconic venues including Radius, Cermak Hall, Concord Music Hall, Metro, Smartbar, Spybar, Serum, Outset, Masada, Castaways, Anita Dee II, and Smoke & Mirrors.

2025's highlights included Rossi b2b Josh Baker extending to over three hours on the Expansions stage, and Cajmere's epic b2b with Detrioit's Carl Craig at Area 909. On the Sunday, Kettama packed the stage at AREA 909, while Honey Dijon b2b Derrick Carter closed the weekend in glorious fashion, paying homage to Chicago by uniting house legends DJ Sneak, DJ Lady D, Lori Branch, and Jevon Jackson together on stage. Meanwhile, ARC After Dark saw local legends Hiroko Yamamura and DJ Lady D playing an epic Radius afterparty sets alongside Richie Hawtin.

"This was by far the best year to me. We’re really starting to stretch our legs beyond the three core days of the festival," shared ARC Marketing Director, Alan Brant. "I’m always humbled by the outpouring of love from both fans and artists. This year felt like everything aligned for a perfect weekend celebrating dance music in the city that gave house to the world."
