Body Movements
East London’s first ever queer electronic music festival takes over more than a dozen venues in Hackney Wick each summer. Due to popular demand, a new winter edition is launching this year.
Chosen for: Driving Diversity.
Tickets for Body Movements tend to sell out fast – and for good reason. The annual party-slash-festival launched its first chapter in 2021, and due to its success the team are debuting the winter edition in February at Printworks.
A taste of the typical Body Movements line-up features cult queer party Adonis, as well as Big Dyke Energy – the south London-based warehouse rave centring a female-identifying queer audience; Queer Bruk, run by Akeil Onwukwe-Adamson, serve up Afrobeat selections, while Chapter 10 – the longstanding non-profit queer rave run by Dalston Superstore owner Dan Beaumont – are on the bill. You can also catch Hungama, a queer alt-Bollywood experience, and Inferno, the goth and kink techno night previously held at the ICA.
Body Movements is the first event of its kind in east London. By being the first UK festival to bring together these disparate nights and sub-communities within the London LGBTQIA+ scene, the event creates a sense of cohesion and unity for the city’s queer club circuit. As the name suggests, it’s truly a moment to let loose and luxuriate in a space where you’re in the majority rather than the minority. For queer DJs and performers, it’s also a vital platform for resources and to reach new audiences. Tickets for the July edition will be released on 2 March, so keep an eye out on the Body Movements Instagram to bag them fast.
Body Movements’ winter edition takes place on 4 February at Printworks. The summer celebration will go ahead in July 2023. You can sign up for more information here.
