An area of East London rich with centuries of history, Tower Hamlets has historically served as a gateway connecting London to the world. Situated on the north bank of the River Thames, its docks have been integral to the development of the capital.

Britain’s industrial and colonial expansion transformed this borough into a hub of migration, as the Thames’ busy waterways drew Jewish, Asian and African communities to settle and work along its distinctive north-bank bend throughout the 19th century.
