Nativeland
Nativeland is a music festival that’s carved out a formidable reputation in Lagos, Nigeria, for the ways in which it champions West African culture.
Launched by The Native, the music magazine’s flagship festival has grown to become a key event within the Nigerian music scene. It focuses primarily on Afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B and pop, booking prominent African artists (Ayra Starr, Naira Marley, Cruel Santino and Lady Donli, for example) as well as international names – like Skepta and J Hus – for its lineups.
Aside from music, Nativeland is a comprehensive cultural event that intersects art with food and education. The festival features Native House: a day of panels and discussions designed to contextualise the music it platforms. Nativeland’s strong focus on African culture and its diaspora appeals not only to music fans but also to travellers and cultural explorers keen on delving into the rich tapestry and diversity of contemporary African creativity.
Nativeland is one of the finalists for Trippin 50, a cultural calendar featuring the best events around the world. Check out the Trippin 50 hub here.
