Fashion draws its influences and inspiration from everywhere, however, travel allows for a deeper understanding of the different cultural styles and traditions unique to each country across the world. Diving beneath the surface of a destination is integral for authentic cultural exchange and connecting to the communities and individuals pushing forward the boundaries of fashion in their respective fields and cities. In the latest episode of Trippin on Tour, we team up with STEELO, a new community-based Fashion styling and production company founded by BBK’s Lasha, on their Europe tour.
As our borders begin to slowly open up, Lasha, close friend Greatness Dex, set out from London onwards to Paris then Amsterdam, to visit friends who have given them exclusive access to their archive collections. We capture the ins and outs as the pair link up with Patta in Amsterdam, Pigalle in Paris and finally end at Wizkid's birthday in London. We catch up with Lasha in a short Q&A to find out a little bit more about their tour.
How would you describe STEELO to someone who doesn't know about it?
It's a community-based Fashion styling and production company. The key services we provide to our community include styling, garment rental and publication production.
How does travelling influence your style and why is it important to you?
Travelling is key to STEELO! Visiting different cities diversifies our style and fashion perspective. Each culture carries its own swag and staple silhouettes. This is always a refreshing change to the ends.
What was the reason for the trip?
Over the last couple months we have started work on STEELO Spotlight series, which we will be launching on our website later this year - towards this, we set out to visit close friends of ours, Gee & Vincent from Patta Amsterdam and Stéphane from Pigalle Paris to discuss inspiration, culture and have an exclusive sneak peak into their archives.
What keeps you coming back to Amsterdam and Paris?
It feels like home when we visit Amsterdam and Paris. Both cities have sick vibes and comfortable low-key spots away from the touristy parts we can chill at.
What’s next for STEELO?
We are going to continue touring the STEELO Spotlight series getting to know the icons from our international fashion community. Our website will be launching this year too - a membership-based fashion encyclopaedia and education space.
The mobile app is also in the works bringing frictionless booking and garment rental to our stylist community.
