What's the Political Situation like in Jamaica?

Whilst Jamaica’s political past affects its present in the form of gang wars, these are localised to certain areas – mainly ghettos – where the everyday traveller is unlikely (and not recommended) to go. Moreover, supporters of the two political parties, the People’s National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) tend to have rivalries. These can be especially explosive around election times. Nevertheless, this is again something that mainly affects locals. People visiting Jamaica are unlikely to be caught up in any such tensions and general questions travellers may have will not be met with hostility.
