8 Black-Owned Businesses in Berlin, Chosen By Floyd Lavine
Floyd LavineAs a self-proclaimed ‘African nomad’, Floyd Lavine was born and raised in South Africa's Cape Town and is currently based in Berlin. Stints in London and his adopted hometown of Berlin have helped him to find his sound, which he's described as Afrofuturistic techno funk. The producer was a founding member of the RISE crew in Berlin between 2015-2018, and now runs his own imprint Afrikan Tales.
The artist has made his Innervisions debut with 'Blackalicious', which features on the label's 'Secret Weapons Part 15' compilation. The track is also Floyd's first link-up with respected Nigerian neo soul artist Wayne Snow, who features on vocals.
The label owner is our go-to, then, for Black-owned businesses in the German capital. Continuing our ongoing series of Black-owned guides, Lavine drops a useful guide to Black-owned restaurants, childcare and more.

Dennis Chuene
“Take a look at the unique, one-of-a-kind-pieces as well as the designs of the ready-to-wear line by this South African-born designer, launched in 2008. One can hardly identify the cultural roots of these fantastic garments or the times that they could have possibly been made in. Bringing together aesthetics of various African countries and traditional Asian craftsmanship, every piece of his brand is handmade by only one person: Dennis Chuene himself.”
