The tidal pool in Margate was my very first taste of freedom in the in the open water.
It offers a relatively controlled environment because it's obviously got sides to it. It was also the first moment I shared with swimming with other people. It's a really special place for me and one I go to just swim freely without any objective.

It's just a wonderful beach just off of a 30 mile stretch of Kent coast. And it's just a space of natural beauty with the chalk rock and this amazing keyhole that you can explore when the tides low. It's also a great place to swim no matter the time of the year.

This is my little London Getaway in south London. Its a really beautiful and one of the most underused pools in London I think- but I kind of like it that way.

Modern eclectic touches flood the menu with one of my favourites being the flamed roasted sea bass with coconut-galangal sauce, green apple, red miso and garden peas. Yum.

The fact that owner Peter has never wanted any press reviews of his beloved restaurant speaks volumes. He loves it so much here that he even has his own bedroom right in the middle of the restaurant for all to see! It is primarily a steak and goulash and fondue menu due to his Swiss origins, also check out Peter’s famous salad which is very random but delicious. Watch out for his homemade Limoncello, it’s lethal.

La Finca can Suldat

The ultimate authentic Ibiza outdoor dining experience where you eat in amongst the orange groves and lavender. The owners hail from Italy and Israel so the flavour combinations are dreamy. Pretty vintage crockery adorn the pastel painted tables, all adding to the charm. Apart from my own falafel, La Paloma’s is the best on the island.

This beautiful family run restaurant for more than 35 years, had primarily been a wedding and private events venue only until 2020 when the owners finally opened their doors to islanders and tourists. They have a stunning manicured kitchen garden that services the restaurant and a sweet smelling citrus orchard. Now I find that the service standards in Ibiza can at times be haphazard, but here it is always impeccable. The pork glazed in Pekinese sauce, tandoori taco, Korean guacamole and smoked eel is their signature dish this season…and is utterly delectable.

This wonderful family owned back street restaurant in the labyrinth of San An has recently had a beautiful modern makeover. The owners proudly support local producers and grow their own veggies whilst the taster menu is as good as any gastronomic experience that you might expect from dining in San Sabastian or Barcelona. Pure magic.


Es Ventall

This is an Ibiza institution located in this dreamy hilltop village. It is open all year round, still have the original wooden post boxes where locals still collect their parcels and it is here where Ibiza’s first ever public telephone was installed! It remains my go to place for grilled sardines and proper homemade chips (which I also often have with a couple of fried eggs!).

Manhengji does the most authentic Old Beijing hotpot. Located in the bustling Niujie area, here, the hotpot uses traditional flavours and is cooked to strict halal standards. Copper pots and charcoal are used to cook the broth. Be warned: it's best to avoid peak dining hours or you might find yourself waiting in line for a long time. Once you can get a seat, the experience is worth the wait.

Must-try dishes include the Huimin-style stir-fried tripe – a traditional Beijing snack that's particularly popular in halal restaurants. Don't miss the hand-cut lamb leg meat too. However, if you're not accustomed to the gamey taste of lamb, you might want to think twice. The lamb here retains its most primitive flavour, which might not be for everyone. But with its affordable price,
generous portions and great value, it'll be money well spent. If you're a hotpot enthusiast, Manhengji is a place you can't miss.

牛街清真满恒記 (Manhengji)

Guizhou is renowned for its unique sour fish soup – a traditional delicacy of the Miao and Dong ethnic groups. The allure of this dish lies not only in the tender fish and the rich soup, but also in its distinctive sour and spicy flavour. Typically, this dish pairs fresh fish with homemade fermented soup, and it's seasoned with spices like chilli peppers and wood ginger, all boiled together to create an appetising, sour and spicy dish. In a Guizhou restaurant, you can also experience the rich array of ingredients from the Guizhou mountains. Tip: try the 50% love 50% hate dish 鱼腥草.

All my friends who like Sichuan food say this is the one. This place serves authentic Sichuan flavours. The tofu pudding is a highlight. Made from top-quality soy beans, it is carefully grounded and fermented to produce a delicate texture and rich bean flavour. Whether paired with spicy sauce, numbing sauce or sugar water, it'll keep you coming back for more.


Kung pao chicken, mapo tofu, and boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chilli; each dish is a perfect interpretation of the essence of Sichuan cuisine. Located in Wangjing, it's not in the most central area but it's a very authentic, small restaurant that's worth the trip.

Hunan cuisine is considered to be quite spicy among the many provinces in China that love spicy food. Those who are not confident with spice should be cautious. This is serious. At this Hunan cuisine restaurant, you can enjoy authentic chopped pepper fish head and old Changsha stinky tofu. The chopped pepper fish head is known for its spiciness and freshness. The old Changsha stinky tofu is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a unique fermented aroma and special sauce that makes it rich in flavour.

The restaurant's team carefully prepares the dishes to ensure they present the most authentic Hunan flavours, allowing you to experience the culture and charm of Hunan through delicious food. Almost every dish needs to be eaten with rice, which is the way.

隐厨 三里屯店 (Yinchu)

This one is one of our favourites. All the DJs we've brought here love the food. It feels like our canteen, and we have tried almost every dish. Even during the peak hours on weekends, the quality is still guaranteed. One of the characteristics of Yunnan cuisine is its diversity and regional features. Yunnan's varied topography and rich climates provide a wealth of ingredients. Therefore, the menu of this restaurant includes a variety of dishes, including wild mushrooms unique to Yunnan, fresh vegetables, various meats and fish. The taste of Yunnan dishes is typically fresh and light, emphasising the natural flavours of the ingredients, and also uses some unique seasonings such as  Yunnan's pickled vegetables, xiaomi chilli and Sichuan pepper to enhance the flavour. You can expect to taste some classic Yunnan dishes such as Crossing the Bridge noodles, Yunnan-style stir-fried meat, pickled vegetable fish and bamboo tube rice. These dishes are not only rich in flavour but also have unique cooking methods, allowing you to experience the local customs and  flavours of Yunnan while enjoying the food.

一坐一忘 (Yin & Out)

Although the price is high, this restaurant is still worth a try. I only recommend the roast duck. The other dishes are OK, but the value is not as good. There are wines from France, Italy, Australia and China to choose from. Sheng Yong Xing is a duck restaurant known for its unique flavours and exceptional quality. The restaurant selects high-quality ducks and uses a meticulous curing and special preparation process to ensure that the flavour is at its best. The cooking of the duck is meticulous, resulting in crispy skin and tender meat with a golden colour.

The restaurant has an elegant and comfortable environment with warm and attentive service, providing an excellent dining experience for both family meals and business gatherings. The duck's distinct flavours and quality have attracted many diners, making it a highly-acclaimed duck restaurant.

Sheng Yong Xing

A cheap, fast-food noodle spot. This small noodle shop is known for its excellent Chongqing noodles and laoma chao shou. Chongqing noodles are a specialty of the Sichuan region, famous for its spicy and numbing flavours. The Chongqing noodles at this shop are made with high-quality flour, resulting in noodles that are springy and elastic. When cooked, the noodles are combined with a special spicy sauce. The overall taste is spicy and rich without being dry, and numbing without being greasy.

Finding a restaurant in Beijing that specialises in Guangdong roast goose can be a bit of a challenge. Guangdong roast goose is a classic Cantonese dish known for its crispy skin, tender meat and golden colour. These establishments typically select high-quality geese that are carefully raised to ensure the
freshness of the meat. The preparation involves several steps, including marinating, drying and basting; the meat absorbs the aroma of fruitwoods during the roasting process, creating a smoked flavour. When served, the roast goose is often accompanied by a special sweet sauce for dipping, which complements the sweetness of the sauce with the succulence of the goose, enhancing the overall flavour profile. In addition to roast goose, Sanqingtan usually offers other classic Cantonese dishes such as claypot rice, white cut chicken, steamed fish and more. The restaurant's environment and service are designed to match the quality of the food.

It's advisable not to visit during peak hours as you might have to queue. It's also best to order early as sometimes the roast goose sells out quickly.

If you want a night out in the township, this should be your first stop. Rands is one of the best live music venues in the city and a great place to experience a night out over some drinks and some of SA’s biggest musicians.

This is probably the most popular bar in town. They have great music from an eclectic line up of local (and some international) djs. Start off at the one in Kloof Street around 6/7pm for sundowners and make your way down the road to the one on loop street around 10pm for the rest of the night. If you just want a chilled night out, stick to Kloof Street.

My favourite place to go on dates, or for when I just want to treat myself. Plus they always have info on upcoming BDSM events happening in the cities.

Haw Par Mansion is an abandoned mansion that's got loads of trippy sculptures. I mean, can you imagine becoming so rich that one day you say to yourself, "What if I build a garden here?' and then the garden looks like that? Sometimes I wonder if whoever came up with those sculptures were on any psychedelics whilst making them.

Fuji Building is a place where horny foreigners, expats, escorts and landlords collide. It’s a nice place for those people to hang out, especially since there’s some similar buildings like it around that area. It’s got a trippy interior design to it as well. If anybody's looking for a place to go, this should be one of them.

There's a forbidden village that looks like a forest called Sha Lo Tung. It's in a really remote area in Tai Po. Lots of nature. There's grassland, wetland, abandoned farmland inside. Watch out for the dragonflies and the butterflies though. A land developer had wanted to build a columbaria on the land after buying the ownership from villagers, and there was a lot of controversy around the whole thing.

Foo Tak Building has given us lots of memories. HKCR used to be there, and Twenty Alpha is still in there. We did some performances in those venues before, but there’s also a rooftop that most people can go to most of the time. The rooftop is great for performing and smoking, especially when the weather isn’t so hot. Lots of our friends have been on the rooftop before, whether it’s for watching a show or just chilling there. Just know that the building closes its gates at 8pm.

Champagne Court is a legendary spot in Hong Kong. It has been used on a few TV series, but the thing is it used to provide legal prostitution in the 90s and it got a lot of clout because of that.

Fung Tak Park is another place with some trippy stuff going on. Most of the park’s design is based on the Chinese myth 'Journey to the West,' and they have a whole waterfall inside the park. One of my friends shot their music video there.

There’s some good spots in Ho King Commercial Building. It’s perfect because there’s street food all around that area, obscure shops, cheap electronics and all that. It was known for selling porno DVDs, especially in the 90s. There’s more quiet smoking spots if you take a lift up and go to the stairs. Quite safe, at least for now. Don’t do drugs, there’s lots of cops in that area.

This is the exact spot where we first made ‘Harbor’ on our ‘Synthetic’ EP. It was a really random day. Takeem hit me up and [asked] if we wanna meet. For some reason I just brought my laptop with me, because I'd been making lots of songs at that time in places outside my home studio. I didn’t know we were going to meet up somewhere outdoors on that day, but I still took my laptop out, made a beat, Takeem quickly freestyled and wrote some lyrics. That’s how we first started ‘Harbor’ – in front of the harbor. There had been times where I needed to go out and make some music instead of being stuck at home, and that’s the spot I’d go [to]. Sometimes it’s quiet, other times there’d be people hanging out even at 2am.

Knockdown Center is this old factory with lots of different nooks and crannies to explore; this huge, amazing place over a pile of abandoned building and piles of rubble. They made it beautiful. There's a club in the basement; it's like a dungeon, you can go down there and there'll be techno but on summer evenings they have the outside going and you can get 2,000 people out there. There's always good stuff every weekend. It has a magical vibe to it because you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. Knockdown Center would be my favourite place for outdoor stuff. I do a party there on Sundays during the summer called Tiki Disco so I'm a bit biased because our party's really special, but it's not only because of that. I like the place in general.

Good Room has been around for a while now. The thought that has gone into that place has been really tremendous. The sound is immaculate and they're constantly improving on the sound system. There's two rooms: one room called the Bad Room and then there's the main room. The bathroom is this dark, smoky, tight, little space that goes crazy. You feel like you can't see anything when you're in there; it's flashing lights and smoke, and they'll have DJs in there. In the main room, there's always DJs. It's a beautiful old club that used to be a Polish queer club. It's got this 80s look to it: beautiful wooden floors and these steel ceilings. The music is consistently excellent. The guy who does the programming, Josh [Houtkin], he's got great taste. There's always spectacular stuff going on, and it’s become, over the years, one of our most beloved spaces.

Good Room

My favourite new club in Bushwick. You go into Paragon and you feel like you are stepping into an alternative seedy underground section of our culture. It's very diverse and the music is really cutting edge; there's a lot of exciting new talent being booked. It's more the edgy side of things in the basement, and the basement is wild. The turntables are on a pool table. When I was DJing there, people were surrounding me, screaming. The ceilings are low, and it's really smoky and crazy. Then, on the top floor, they've got this old-school-style DJ booth all the way up on top looking down on this beautiful second floor balcony that reminds me of The Limelight from the 90s. They tend to put more straightforward techno up there. Downstairs will be more newer stuff that's emerging from the underground. The person who owns it has a very beloved long-running club in New York called Bossa Nova Civic Club and it feels like the sister club to that place. It's very close by and has a lot of the same crowd.

House of Yes keeps giving me the most creative freedom out of any place I've worked at. They let me play all night, which is becoming more common for me these days. There's a lot of spectacle; aerialists, dancers, all sorts of different shows. You'll be dancing and then all of a sudden, in the middle of the dancefloor, there’ll be a show with two dancers that work for the club. For a long time, it's been the epicentre of creative expression and creative freedom. A real safe space for people to be at. They're consistent and maybe even better than ever now. I've had a monthly night where I can play for six, seven hours and I really love doing that.

House of Yes

If you're looking for a simple, dark basement type of vibe, a good one is Black Flamingo in Williamsburg. It's a beautiful, simple basement; all wood, kind of looks like a sauna. Minimal lighting and really nice sound. There's always good house and disco being played there. It's in the basement of a restaurant. You wouldn't even necessarily know it's there if you were in the restaurant, but at 10pm they open up this little door and then you go down the stairways and it gets dark and smoky. I think you can't even get 100 people in there, so it's very intimate and chill.

Black Flamingo

I don't think it's been open for two full months yet. SILO is like this brown tin can in this area that used to be old factories. I played there recently all night and what was interesting to me was that the DJ booth was just smack dab in the middle of the dancefloor. I would hesitate to call it a booth. There's the CDJs and the mixer, and you step up on this – not even one foot up – little board and you're DJing in the middle of the dancefloor surrounded by people. At first I was like, this feels claustrophobic. And then I really enjoyed it actually, it was fun. It felt like I was in the party. It was easy to feed off of the crowd’s energy, and there's no other place like that in New York. It feels intimate because you're surrounded by people but then you can't see how many more people are all around. I think they can get 500 or 600 people in there, and the bookings have been stellar also. New York's crazy good right now.

SILO NYC

Nowadays is special for a lot of reasons. It's beautiful looking, it feels really neat. We've got this outdoor area that's beautifully lit. It provides a nice area to go take a breather, it's not that wild outside and then inside the sound system is beautiful. They've done an amazing job of creating their own little scene, booking lots of unsung, up-and-coming talent and creating a place for those people to be able to play, and then getting them more opportunities to play at other places. It feels like they've got a unique approach to running a club. They stay open from Saturday to late Sunday night or early Monday morning, so you can always go there. A lot of times on Saturdays, at 5am, when I'm finishing people will be like, 'Where can we go now?' You can always go to Nowadays because they're just going and going.

A quirky afrocentric boutique hotel with a small gallery and a serious vinyl collection of vintage Nigerian music. They host an open mic night every Thursday and this is where I first began to hone my skill as a performer. The food is great too.

Bogobiri

This was once a prison during colonial times, but it’s now a centre that celebrates art and culture. It’s home to quite a few festivals and live events, but Afropolitan Vibes is the one that offered me and many others a platform to perform to a big crowd of regulars.

Freedom Park

It’s hard to describe hFACTOR. It’s this really cool space in the heart of Lagos Island. They often collaborate with different people to throw some amazing parties and you get to meet the most unique characters. It’s a completely different vibe each time.

It’s the tea for me. However, it is first and foremost a library of vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and books. The proprietors are also a great source of knowledge about Lagos, and Nigeria in general. Also, as mentioned earlier, the tea is excellent. I performed there once, as a member of a group called the Collectiv3.

Jazzhole

So many of us have been excluded from places because of our fashion sense, musical leanings and unique way we present ourselves to the world, but at Island Block Party (and its progenitor - mainland block party), everyone is welcome. My favourite thing about it is the exchange of culture between dissimilar yet like-minds. It’s what makes this monthly party a must to attend. It’s also a great place for upcoming and established acts to perform.

My local in Poplar, it’s a gem for Sichuan food and my go-to when I’m craving something spicy. They do a fantastic spicy crayfish; the lamb skewers are my favourite in London and they also have a smaller specials menu which is written in Chinese (it also contains pictures).

They serve one of my favourite Sichuan dishes: mala xiang guo. You select an assortment of ingredients – ranging from sliced lotus root, beef, fish balls, potato slices, enoki mushrooms – which they then stir fry in spices, lots of chilli and Sichuan peppercorn. Fantastic on a cold evening with an ice cold beer.

My favourite place in London to take a group for spicy hotpot. Good quality ingredients and a fun experience. The butter spicy hotpot is a must get.

Exceptional Sichuan food. Their version of the classic fuqi feipian (translates to ‘husband and wife’ offal dish) is delicious, and the grilled seabass is a showstopper.
